A-Z Resource  

ACT: Students who plan to attend a four-year college or university must take either the ACT or the SAT to gain admission.  Register to take whichever exam you choose twice:  once in the spring of your junior year and once in the fall of your senior year.  Registration must be completed in advance and there is a cost.  Students who get free/reduced lunch may be eligible for a fee waiver.  Inquire in the Counseling Office.   

Affordable Colleges Online: This site provides community resources and tools related to higher education with an eye on affordability and accreditation.   

Apply Texas:  Complete all of your in-state college, junior college and technical school applications on this site:     "At-Risk:" The state of Texas determines eligibility criteria to identify students who are considered "at risk" of dropping out of school.  This criteria includes students who are not advanced from one grade level to the next for one or more school years, unsatisfactory performance on a state-mandated test, students who are behind in credits, and more.  Per state requirements, students who meet this criteria are issued a personal graduation plan listing appropriate instructional programs and/or services the school will provide to address the needs of the student.    Baccalaureate:  An optional non-denominational worship service hosted though a cooperative effort among all of Maypearl's local churches, Baccalaureate celebrates graduating seniors just prior to graduation in the spring.

Big Future: If you're not sure what post-secondary school would be a good fit for you, this is a great place to start.     

Common App: This site hosts college applications for over 500 colleges and universities nationwide.  If you plan to apply to an out-of-state college or university, use this site to complete the application process.    

Dual Credit: Dual credit allows students to earn college credit for courses while still in high school.  Dual Credit is offered through a partnership between Maypearl High School and area colleges.  Academic dual credit offerings include courses in  English, Math, Science, and Social Studies through the Panther Academy.    

End of Course (EOC) Testing: STAAR End of Course (EOC) Testing is mandated by the State of Texas for the following subjects: English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, US History.      

FAFSA: Seniors and their parents should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in the fall beginning October 1st of their Senior year. Once enrolled in a post-secondary institution, students will need to complete the FAFSA every year to continue to receive federal student aid.

Fee Waiver: Students who receive free or reduced lunch are eligible for a fee waiver to take the SAT or ACT.  Students should inquire in the Counseling Office.  

Federal Student Aid: Visit the following website to help determine what type of financial aid you may qualify for and be able to receive.   

Financial Aid: The term "financial aid" refers to any type of financial assistance for education including grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and student and parent loans.  Complete the FAFSA to qualify for financial aid, and meet with the Financial Aid office of the academic institution you plan to attend to ensure that you understand the terms and conditions of your financial aid package prior to signing any offers.

Free Recruiting Webinar  Sponsored by a non-profit organization, this resource provides valuable insight into the college athletic recruiting process at no charge and no risk of your information being sold to for-profit recruiters.  Any students and/or parents who are seeking an athletic scholarship should watch this webinar in its entirety. Beware of companies that promise scholarships in exchange for payment.

GPA (Grade Point Average):  Grade points are earned for numerical grades in each semester of a successfully completed course. Grade points are calculated on a weighted, mixed scale.  PreHonors, Honors, and Dual Credit courses are weighted more than regular courses. See the attached sheet for further information.

Khan Academy: Navigate college admissions like a pro with Khan Academy's evolving resource! Find advice that is relevant for all college applicants in addition to portions tailored for high potential students who are worried about whether they can afford higher education.   

Local Scholarships: Local scholarships are made possible by organizations and individuals within the Maypearl community and are designated specifically for Maypearl High School students.  Seniors should review the applications attached to the Local Scholarships portion of this website and complete applications for which they qualify. Completed applications are due in the Counseling Office no later than March 4, 2022, 3:35 pm.  No late applications will be accepted.  Scholarships will be presented at the High School Awards Ceremony and Senior Walk in May.  

Match the Promise: The Texas Match the Promise Foundation offers competitive matching scholarships and tuition grants to qualifying students.   

NASA Summer Program: Juniors can apply to spend a week at NASA during the summer!  

Panther Academy:  Qualified Maypearl High School students have an opportunity to earn academic dual credit in select English, math, science, social studies and fine arts courses through the Panther Academy.  High school freshman and sophomores take online college courses in conjunction with local colleges, and juniors and seniors have the opportunity to take college courses taught on the high school campus and/or online courses. Success in these college-level classes require students to be academically motivated and well organized. Students must meet college admission criteria in addition to Maypearl High School's criteria prior to enrolling in Dual Credit classes.  

Parent Portal:   Parents and students both should use Maypearl ISD Parent Portal to monitor grades and attendance.  Set email alerts or check the site regularly.  Go to maypearlisd.org and choose Parent Portal from the Quick Links section.  For help accessing Parent Portal, email parentportal@maypearlisd.org  

PSAT/NMSQT:  This pre-SAT test is offered once a year, usually mid-October.  Maypearl ISD pays for all juniors that sign up to take the test, and Sophomores may sign up to participate for an additional fee.  Results of the PSAT are a useful resource for studying to improve SAT scores, and PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test) participants who are in their junior year are automatically submitted to determine if they qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. Homeschool students are eligbile to test, and should contact the high school at 972-435-1020 to register.

Texas Education Agency (TEA):  The TEA, along with the State Board of Education, guides and monitors activities and programs related to public education in Texas.  Find information about testing and accountability ratings and education news on this site.  

Transcript: An academic record of all of the courses taken for high school credit.  Semester grades, credits, GPA and class rank are shown on a transcript.  An official transcript (signed, stamped with the school seal, and in a sealed envelope) is generally required as part of the application process for post-secondary education or the military.  Requests for transcripts must be made in writing. The first ten will be free; any additional requests will be five dollars each. Please be sure to give 24 hour notice. If you are a current student in need of a transcript, email Mrs. Lee at janelle.lee@maypearlisd.org. Former students should request their transcript from the Administration Office. Tutoring: Tutoring is offered before and after school, and it is the student's responsibility to attend tutoring to make up missed assignments or for help understanding concepts taught during class.  Students may go to any teacher for tutoring, though students are encouraged to notify their teacher when they plan to attend tutoring in case a teacher's regularly scheduled tutoring time must be changed.  

United States Senate Youth Program: This program is offered to high school Juniors and Seniors that meet certain criteria in regard to leadership positions.
